Beware of Counterfeit Products

video

Counterfeit items purchased from an online shop negatively affect the sales of the original products’ manufacturers. Several of these businesses say that such items have safety concerns. Most products sold on the major e-commerce company’s online store are not actually sold by the company itself; in 2017, 58 percent of the company’s sales were from third-party sellers. Toys, baby products, and other items do not need specific approval from the shop for them to be sold.

The major online store, however, introduced a program in 2017 that allows manufacturers to register and have their items trademarked to track fakes. They are also required to use a unique code to label their products. But some sellers claim that such measures are not enough. The store says that it is making a great effort to support small and medium-sized companies to sell in their marketplace. However, the company explains that the businesses are responsible for the quality of their products, and the law states that platform sellers are not liable for infringement.

But there are still concerns that not enough will be done to prevent counterfeit products until a serious accident occurs.
