The Path to a Creative Career

Stacy Michaels

Five years ago, I took the biggest risk of my life. After working as a copywriter, I decided to pursue my goal of being a creative director. My breakthrough arrived when I became the creative director of Glam Clothing Inc.

If there is a piece of wisdom I can impart to anyone who wants to be a creative director, it would be to research the business side of creativity. Your inspiration can take you to greater heights but you must also understand things from your client’s perspective. Having a solid grasp of the market will help you strengthen your brand’s image and identity. In my case, I dedicated my time reading various books and magazines on clothes. I visited multiple stores and observed the customers while they shopped; this allowed me to keep my fingers on the pulse of the fashion industry.

If you aspire to become a creative director, you must learn to juggle the diverse duties involved in bringing creative projects to life. The key to any creative career is to balance ideas and technical skills.
