Curry Travels around the World

video

When we hear the word curry, we think of India. But did you know that there is no dish called curry in India?

In 1772, a British clerk brought back rice and many spices from India. Other people in the UK tried it and liked it. Then, curry gradually became popular in the UK. British curry later came to Japan.

Curry was an expensive dish in the Meiji era. Japanese people could eat eight bowls of soba for the price of one plate of curry and rice. Since then, curry has been popular in Japan. A lot of curry-based foods have appeared in Japan. Some examples are curry-udon, curry-pan, and curry-flavored snacks.

Curry was born in India. Then, people in the UK and Japan started eating it. Now, everyone in the world eats curry.
