Part B_2 Passage reading
Sharing happiness
For many artists, art is a way to share happiness with people. One artist spent his two-week vacation in Belgium painting on the streets. Even though he could not understand the language, those who passed by seemed happy to see his work. He realized the power of art to bring people together.
He watched a TV program about a school for orphans and street children in Kenya. After seeing the children looking unhappy, he felt an urge to paint something for them. In 2006, he arrived in Kenya, found a school, and was able to paint for the children. But a teacher complained that the children were frightened of the dragon. They thought it was a large snake. The children did not know that dragons are imaginary. He then asked the children to help him. They had a lot of fun, and the teachers reported that the children became more active than ever.
Creating happiness through art with others was the turning point of his career. He made up his mind to do an annual painting project around the world.
