PART C_2

In Japan, if you do something wrong, your parents might lock you out of the house. You might have the experience of being told, “Get out of the house!” In the States, however, you are forbidden to leave the house. We call this “being grounded.” This cultural difference suggests a deeply embedded concept of what a “house” represents. Locking children out suggests that home is a place where they want to be, a place of safety and solace. The outside world is a dangerous place where children must face their punishment for breaking the rules. By contrast, forbidding a child to go outside suggests that being confined to the house is distressing. A difference in culture is a difference in perspective.

Read the following description of the difference between “house” and “home” and tell an opinion about your ideal house and home.

——————————–
When you talk about a house, you mean a physical building that is made of bricks, cement, and all the other raw materials. But the moment you call it “home,” the meaning changes. By “home,” we mean a place where you live with your families and loved ones. “Home” represents comfort and safety.

The meaning of both words is very clear. All you have to do is just pay a little attention to it. A home is a place where you feel special and it has some value to you. Also, “home” is the location where you feel you belong. But a house is just a building and it has no meaning to you. Well, that’s the difference between “home” and “house.”
