PART C_2
Before the Shinkansen train arrives at Tokyo Station, a group of staff in uniforms and with cleaning tools stand in line on a platform. After bowing at the passengers and seeing them off, the staff go in each car and start their work. They check and clean the cars in a step-by-step process within seven minutes while the train stays at the platform. This group is called Tessei, the cleaning staff of Shinkansen trains at Tokyo Station. They clean about 20 trains in 22 teams. Tessei’s striking features are their cleaning method and skillful performance, and people call it “Shinkansen Theater.” One factor behind Tessei’s success is Japan’s unique cleaning culture. Many Japanese people keep the places around them clean, in and out of their houses. Another is the teams’ sense of pride and responsibility. The cleaning staff keep in mind that what they are doing is offering the passengers a comfortable trip. Tessei is able to perform their miracle performance through their pride in their career as well as the Japanese culture. What miracles will you perform when you start working in the future?
