Helping Blind People
Eyesight is one of the most important senses of the human body. It does not just allow people to see, eyes also help them connect and communicate with other people. People use their eyes to express their emotions when talking to someone.
However, not all people have the ability to see. Some people were born blind, while others lost their eyesight either through disease or in accidents. Sighted people should be aware that there are a lot of ways to help the blind people. First, when talking to a blind person, you should use their name to address them. This is to let them know that you are talking to them and not to someone else. Second, make sure to introduce yourself before giving assistance to a blind person. If they turn down your offer, please respect that and do not insist on helping them. Lastly, communicate with them directly and clearly. When giving directions, instead of saying “go this way”, you may say “turn right” or “go straight ahead”. Since blind people cannot see gestures and other body languages, being specific with your messages is important.
