Charlie told Lucky that it was time for her to learn how to fly.
“Why do I have to fly?” asked Lucky.
“You’re a gull.”
“Me? A gull?” Lucky was surprised. She thought she was a cat.
“Yes. You’re a gull. I’m a cat. Each is different. Each is good. I love and respect you even though we’re different.”
Lucky asked Charlie to teach her. “I will. I promised your mother.” Charlie said.
Lucky’s flying lessons began. She tried to fly many times, but she failed each time. One rainy night, Charlie and Lucky went to a tower.
“Lucky, all the sky is yours. Open your wings and fly.”
“I can’t.” Lucky cried out and pulled away from the edge. But Charlie encouraged the little gull. “You can if you really want!” Lucky went back into position and stepped into the air. She fell at first, but she gained control moments later. Her wings caught the wind, and she started to fly.
“Charlie, you’re right! I can fly!” Lucky said and flew away.
“Yes. You can,” Charlie said to the wide, empty sky.
