Gongitsune is a story about a fox named Gon and a fisherman named Hyoju. Hyoju was fishing in a river one day. Gon stole the eel he had caught. When Gon later saw a funeral procession for Hyoju’s mother, he realized that the eel was for her to eat when she was sick. Gon felt sorry for having it. He decided to bring mushrooms and chestnuts to Hyoju’s house every day. But Gon was shot with a shotgun by Hyoju after he spotted him sneaking around one day. When he discovered several chestnuts close to Gon’s body, he understood that Gon had brought them for him.
