The Nikkei

The Japanese began immigrating to Canada in the 1870s, looking for a better life. However, Nikkei, or Japanese Canadians, experienced discrimination.
The Nikkei loved playing baseball while they were going through a difficult time. They created the first Nikkei baseball team in 1914. The players became heroes in the Nikkei communities as the team won games, and it eventually became the most successful Nikkei baseball team. The team’s performance in the Terminal League, though, wasn’t great. They lacked strength physically. The third manager of the group improved the defense. They focused on stealing bases after that. Finally, the Canadians started to support the team.
However, the Pacific War changed the team’s lives. Still, the majority of Asahi stayed in Canada and helped develop the country’s local baseball after the war. The group was no longer only a legend among the Nikkei. They had become legendary in Canada.
