Decent Work and Economic Growth
Working ensures people’s financial security and allows them to meet their basic needs. It also contributes to the country’s social and economic development. In 2017, the global unemployment rate was 5.6 percent, down from 6.4 percent in 2000. However, unemployment is still a worldwide issue. 61 percent of all workers were under the informal sector in 2016.

To reduce poverty, productive jobs and decent work are required. They include possibilities for profitable labor, a fair wage, workplace security, social safety for families, improved opportunities for personal growth, and social inclusion for all women and men.

Underdeveloped countries, on the other hand, rely on child labor to meet their basic needs. Nearly one in ten children on the planet is subjected to child labor. Others are trafficked into hazardous jobs that can lead to death.

Gender Gap at Work
Gender inequality has an impact on income. Men earn 12.5 percent more than women in 40 of the 45 countries studied. The global gender pay gap is currently at 23%, and if no efforts are made to close the gap, it will take another 68 years to achieve equal pay. Moreover, men have a 94 percent participation rate in the workforce, whereas women have a 63 percent participation rate.

Despite the fact that women’s educational attainments are equal to or higher than men’s, women are typically paid less than men in similar occupations.

Despite their greater role in society, women continue to do 2.6 times as much unpaid domestic and caregiving labor as men. Unpaid caregiving jobs are one of the most significant hindrances to women pursuing better employment.
