Pictograms
The use of words is the most common means of communication. On the other hand, there are also other ways to communicate. One of them is the use of pictograms.
A pictogram is a symbol that tells a certain message. Instead of words, images are used in pictograms. And so, even those who do not know a certain language can still understand the message of pictograms. Even the children who cannot read yet can understand the meaning of some of them.
Simple images and bright colors are used in making pictograms. As a result, they are easy to understand and they catch the attention of people. They can also be helpful in times of emergency. This is the reason pictograms are often used in public places such as train stations and shopping malls.
As more and more foreigners visit Japan, these images can be helpful for them during their stay in the country. All they have to do is look around and they will surely find some pictograms.
