PART B_2

Biomimicry
Humans, with the help of technology, have invented things that make their lives more convenient. For instance, they have designed airplanes and trains that allow them to travel to far places for a shorter period of time. They have also created mobile phones that let them receive information and communicate with other people as quickly as possible. Another important invention is medicines which they use to treat different diseases. However, most of these inventions have negative effects on the environment.
According to Janine Benyus, humans should help save the environment by observing and trying to find inspiration from nature. She also said that by doing so, people could learn how to live in a nature-friendly way.
A famous example of biomimicry is the Shinkansen trains in Japan. When Engineers first made the Shinkansen, the trains made a very loud sound when going into tunnels which became a huge problem. The engineers found the solution through kingfisher, a kind of bird that dives into the water without a splash. They designed the nose of the train just like the beak of a kingfisher.
Benyus believes that through biomimicry, people would become more aware of nature that will eventually help them save the environment.
