The Earth
Soviet astronaut Yuri Gagarin became the first human in space. He traveled to outer space on Vostok 1 on April 12, 1916, and his first report was: “The sky is dark. The Earth is blue.” From the man’s first view of the planet, the Earth shines blue in space because of its large amounts of water. The planet Earth has water because of its distance from the sun. It is the perfect temperature to have water; not too cold or too hot. Other planets in our solar system have water as well, but it is either too little in amount or they freeze and turn to ice. As far as we know, Earth is the only planet that can support life in the solar system, and water is essential for us to live.
