PART B_2

Sigmund Freud
Sigmund Freud was an Austrian neurologist who was born into a Jewish family. His family was originally from Leipzig and then moved to Vienna where he got his education.
Freud started studying medicine in 1873 at the University of Vienna. He worked at the Vienna General Hospital after he graduated. He treated people with hysteria with Josef Breuer. Freud went to Paris in 1885 to study neurology. He returned to Vienna a year after and opened up a private clinic that specialized in nervous and brain disorders.
Freud developed a theory wherein it shows that humans have an unconscious part in their minds in which aggressive behaviors are in conflict with reality. In 1990, he published “The Interpretation of Dreams” wherein it tackles his analysis of dreams in terms of unconscious desires and experiences.
From 1902 to 1938, he held the position as the Professor of Neuropathology at the University of Vienna. However, the medical institution did not agree with most of his theories. Still, he was able to gain followers through a group of students.
After World War One, he decided to concentrate on the application of his theory to art, literature, and anthropology as he spent less time in clinical observations.
