Elon Musk Demonstrates Technology Linking Computer to Brain
Elon Musk, an American billionaire, has demonstrated a device that uses a computer chip implanted in the head to control the brain called Neuralink. Musk aims to use the device to cure neurological disabilities and help people with spinal injuries recover mobility. Musk also claims that the device could be used to help humans keep up with supercomputers and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in the future. Musk displayed a sample of the Neuralink system during the presentation. It has a width of around 23 millimeters and is made to be inserted into someone’s skull wherein small wires will link the gadget to the brain directly. The Neuralink system is currently being assessed on pigs, with the aim of obtaining approval from the government for human trials in the future. Musk used the event to encourage developers and other professionals to work on the technology with him. He also encouraged people to create their own gadgets and send them to Neuralink for testing.
