Scientists share new findings about armored dinosaur
In 1858, the first complete skeleton of the dinosaur species Scelidosaurus was recovered in the south of England. The fossil was previously examined by a British paleontologist in his published works from 1861 to 1863, but not many scientists paid much attention to this species for over a hundred years.
But the latest studies provide interesting findings about the Scelidosaurus species. After a meticulous observation of its remains, they learned that the said dinosaur had an uncommon body. They add that this species existed approximately 193 million years ago. It was also identified as a member of the ankylosaurs which is a family of armored dinosaurs. They are also known as tank dinosaurs because they possess such a robust build. It had four legs and each limb was estimated to be about four meters in length. Bony plates and pointy spikes covered each leg.
For years, scientists only knew the dinosaur by name, but they did not realize how distinct it was from other dinosaur species.
