「彼は私にアメリカで生まれたと言った」は、英語でどう表現するでしょうか。
He told me that he was born in America.となります。
told meに続くthat…の部分は「…ということ」という意味で、tellしたことの内容になります。

He told me [that he was born in America].
このthatは接続詞で、後ろに続く文 He was born in America を長い名詞のカタマリ(=名詞節)にするはたらきがあります。
このような”動詞+人+that節”の構文をもつ動詞の代表選手として、tellとshowがあげられます。
tell+人+that…(人に…と(いうことを)言う)
show+人+that…(人に…ということを示す)
Let’s learn how to use “tell” and “show” with that-clauses to express what someone said or showed.
例文:
“He told me that he was born in America.”
「彼は私にアメリカ出身だと言った。」
“He showed me that there were many books in the library.”
「彼は私に図書館にたくさん本がある事を示した。」
