READ
Energy
In Japan, the percentage of self‐sufficiency in energy is only 8%. Over 80% of crude oil that is necessary for thermal power generation and 30% of natural gas are exported from the Middle East. In 2011, Japan needed to buy more crude oil and natural gas to secure enough energy which costed over 15 trillion yen.
It is anticipated that the demand for primary energy will increase by 35% more in 2035 than the present demand. Japan has been dependent on thermal power generation and they need to find several ways to generate and secure energy supply.
