The history of news can be dated back to the Ancient Rome and Han Dynasty in China. In Ancient Rome, “Acta Diurna”, or government announcements were engraved either in metal or stone before being posted in public places. Meanwhile, in China, news sheets were handwritten on silk. In 1456, a movable printing system was invented by a German blacksmith, Johannes Gutenberg. Since then, important information became easily shared with everyone. A hundred years later, the term “newspaper” was first used in Venice, Italy when the government published their first handwritten newsletters known as “Written Notice”. To this day, news plays an important role in educating and updating the public that marked and shapes the modern world.
