However, due to higher risks of health problems caused by excessive working hours, companies are starting to prompt and organize ways to improve work-life balance. Taisei Co. is developing a drone known as “T-FREND” to fly around after working hours while playing the song, “Auld Lang Syne” as a reminder to go home. It can also detect anyone who remains at work. According to T-FREND’s inventor, Chikara Sato, “This drone will identify who remains in the office after work and by accessing recorded data, human resources or administration department, it will be able to deal with those who abuse overtime.” This invention is promising as it shows great awareness of Japan’s workaholic culture.
