英検2級ライティングテストの練習問題と、高得点獲得のためのコツ

英検2級ライティングテスト（英作文問題）では、ある程度まとまりのある英文を書く力が求められます。問題は、一般的なTOPICについて自分の意見を理由（2つ）を付して書くという内容です。文字数は80語から100語までの間と決められているため、ライティングテストに慣れていない生徒にとっては容易に解ける問題ではありません。

英検2級のライティングテストで高得点を獲得するためのコツをいくつか紹介します。

TOPICの内容を理解する

ライティングテストで大切なことは、TOPICの内容を読み間違えずに理解することです。読み間違えてしまうと、求められている解答とかけ離れた解答になってしまい、高得点が期待できません。

英作文の書き出しは、I agree with the opinion. 、あるいは I don’t agree with the opinion. のように、自身の意見を書きます。続いて、その意見に対する理由を2つ書きます。文字数は80語から100語までの間に収まるようにします。理由を書く際には、意見と矛盾しないように注意しましょう。

POINTSに書かれている英単語は、解答のためのヒントといっても過言ではありません。POINTSに書かれた英単語をうまく使って解答しましょう。ちなみに、POINTSに書かれた英単語を使わないと減点されるということはありません。

Today some people say that it is not a good idea to start studying English before entering the elementary school. Do you agree with this opinion?

解答例

I agree with this opinion. The first reason is that small children should learn Japanese as a native language first. To be a good English speaker, the sooner, the better. But they have to learn not only three kinds of characters but also Japanese grammar. And the second reason is that it is impossible for small children to understand English. I think it is hard for them to memorize many English words, idioms, and English grammar that is completely different from Japanese ones. In conclusion, I think it is not a good idea to start studying English so early.

解答例では、「英語をあまりに小さいときから習い始めるべきではない」という意見に賛成の立場で発言しています。最初の英文は、I agree with this opinion. となります。しかし、背景が黄色の部分は、「英語を上手に話せるようになるには、早いに越したことはない」と答えているので減点の対象になります。

つなぎの言葉を用いて論理的にライティングする

理由を述べる際には、補足説明を加えることがポイントです。つなぎの言葉を上手く使って理由を裏付けることにより、読みやすい文章になります。採点では、英文の構成が論理的になっているかどうかがチェックされます。

It is often said that Japanese workers don’t take days off and spend too much time at work. Do you agree with this opinion?

解答例

I don’t agree with this opinion. I think these days, many workers make use of paid holidays, summer vacation during the Bon Festival, or the New Year holidays. And now, they have Premium Friday held on Friday of the end of the month, which allow them to leave office earlier than usual without overtime work. They can go to the gym, learn English conversation, take piano lessons, or see old friends on that day. For these reasons, I don’t think workers spend too much time at work

解答例では、理由を2つ示すための言葉がないため、論理性のない英文になっています。黄色の背景の I think は、 One reason is that として、And now, は、Another reason is that とすることで論理的な英文になります。最初の理由部分には補足説明がないので、New Year holidays に続けて to see their parents や to go abroad などを入れると高得点が狙えます。

英検2級のライティングにふさわしい英単語を用いる

英検2級のライティングテストでは、英検2級のスキルに見合う英単語を使うようにしましょう。ただし、難しい英単語を誤用して減点されては元も子もありません。単語のスペルミスや文法事項の使用ミスなど、ケアレスミスがあると高得点は狙えません。日頃から英単語の学習をして、試験に備えることが大切です。

Today many professional sports players play for teams in other countries. Do you think it is a good idea?

I think it is a good idea. These are two reasons. Firstly, they can play sports, like soccer, baseball, basketball, volleyball in very high level teams in other countries. Each player will become a better player than before and they will be able to play each sport as one of the best players when they come back to Japan. Secondly, when the player becomes a member of the team in other countries, they can make more money than they play in Japan. So I think sports players should go abroad to play for the teams in other countries.

These are two reasons.は不要です。理由を2つ挙げる表現を The first reason is that や The second reason is that などに変えると良いでしょう。緑色の背景の部分は、英検2級レベルにふさわしい英単語とはいえません。like を such as、make more money を earn much more money、So を Those are reasons why に変えることで英検2級レベルの英文になります。

同じ単語や同じ構文が続かないように工夫する

同じ単語や同じ構文が続くと読みづらい英文になってしまいます。単語や構文を他の言い回しにするように工夫をすることが大切です。

It is said Japanese cuisine is very popular among the people in the world. Do you agree with this comment?

I agree with this comment. The first reason is that Japanese cuisine is much healthier than western cuisine which contains a lot of butter or milk. Japanese cuisine is seasoned with soup stock made with kelp or bonito and soy sauce. That’s why Japanese cuisine is low in calories. The second reason is that Japanese cuisine is served very beautifully in small portions. Japanese cuisine is a feast for the eyes of the people in the world. In conclusion, Japanese cuisine is very popular among the people all over the world.

全体を見ると、Japanese cuisineの語が多く見受けられます。このような場合には、代名詞や接続詞、関係代名詞などを上手く使って、文章をコンパクトにすると良いでしょう。

まず、黄色の背景の英文は、直前のcuisineで一旦ピリオドを打ち、The first reason is that Japanese cuisine is much healthier than western cuisine. とします。

次に、黄色の背景の英文のwhichを取り除き、「～の一方で」という意味を持つ While を使います。That’s から始まる英文は、非制限用法の関係代名詞 which に置き換えます。すると、次のような英文になります。

While western cuisine contains a lot of butter or milk, Japanese cuisine is seasoned with soup stock made with kelp or bonito and soy sauce, which makes it low in calories.

緑色の背景の英文は、前文とつなげて1つの英文にします。Japanese cuisine は、非制限用法の関係代名詞 which に置き換えます。

The second reason is that Japanese cuisine is served very beautifully in small portions, which is a feast for the eyes of the people in the world.

決められた文字数に収まるようにする

英検2級ライティングテストでは、文字数は80文字から100文字までの間と決められています。79文字以下、あるいは101文字以上の場合、高得点を獲得することはできません。必ず、80～100文字に収まるようにしましょう。

文字数が足りない場合は、理由の補足説明の部分を膨らませるのがおすすめです。一方、文字数が多い場合には、重複して説明している部分を削ったり、説明文を簡潔に言い換えたりして文字数の調整を図るとよいでしょう。
