高校の英語授業に使える「英検2級英作文」練習問題と解説

英検2級の筆記試験では、英作文（ライティング）の問題が出題されます。問題の内容は、あるトピックに対して自分の意見や理由を英語で書くというものです。英検2級の英作文問題で高得点を取るには、多くの練習問題をこなして、英語で文章を書くことに慣れることです。

解答の解説

最初の文では、自分の意見を明確に述べます。disagree with the idea that～は、「～という考えに反対する」という意味です。disagree that と意味は同様ですが、 disagree with の後ろに直接 that ～を続けることができないので注意しましょう。

理由は、First, Second, などの接続詞を使ってわかりやすく列挙します。1つ目の文で理由の概要を簡潔に述べ、次の文でその理由についてのより詳しい説明や具体例などを述べます。「様々な知識を得ることができる」という理由を、anything 、whenever 、 wherever など「制限がない」という意味を持つ単語を重ねることで裏付けています。

2つ目の理由では、主語を smartphone から owning a smartphone に変えています。スマートフォンを持つことに対して多角的な側面から意見を述べることができると良いでしょう。理由が主観的なものばかりにならないよう、誰が読んでも納得できる理由付けになっているかどうかに注意しながら指導しましょう。

最後の文のTherefore は、まとめの文に入ることを示唆するわかりやすい接続詞です。最初の文と最後の文は、ほぼ同じ意味の言葉を並べますが、同じ文章にならないように文法構造を変えるとよいでしょう。主語やフレーズを言い換えて同じ意味の文を作る練習を英語の授業に取り入れるとよいでしょう。

I agree that paper books have no use anymore, and I have two reasons for feeling this way.

First, electronic books are more convenient than paper books. For instance, we do not have to go to a bookstore to buy an electronic book, or to carry heavy bags to go travelling with.

Secondly, paper books are bad for the environment. Making paper books means cutting so many trees, and disposing paper books produces a great amount of CO2 which can lead to the global warming.

It is for these two reasons that I think paper books have no use now.

解答の解説

意見表明と理由への導入は、2つの文に分けて述べることもできますし、解答例のように and を使って1つの文に繋ぐこともできます。reasons for feeling this way は、「このように感じる理由」という意味です。feeling を thinking に言い換えても使える表現です。

理由を述べるパートでは、1文目で「便利である」という理由を漠然と述べ、2文目で「どんな風に便利なのか」を具体例を挙げて説明しています。For instance は For example 「例えば」と同じ意味で使える接続詞です。高校生には、同じ意味を持ついくつかのフレーズを教えておくとよいでしょう。文章を表現する幅が広がります。

bad for the environment は、「環境に悪い」を端的に表すフレーズとしてよく用いられます。英検2級のライティング問題では、環境問題に関連する質問がよく出題されます。英語の語彙や知識を蓄えておくとよいでしょう。

It is for these two reasons that ～は、「（that 以下）であるのはこれら2つの理由からです」または「これら2つの理由をもとに（that 以下）です」という意味を伝える文法として、ライティングの際に役立つフレーズです。these two reasons は、 the two reasons に言い換えることもできます。these two reasons above （以上2つの理由）のように表現することもできます。

反対意見の解答例

解答の解説

1つ目の文章は、質問文をほぼそのまま引用して agree か disagree で答えてしまっても問題ありません。解答例のように、少し動詞の並びを変えたりしても良いでしょう。その場合は、質問の内容に則した答えを的確に述べるようにしましょう。

To begin with は、接続詞 First と同じ意味で用いることのできるフレーズです。同じ意味のフレーズを覚えておくと、バリエーション豊かな英語の文章が書けます。解答例のように、個人の経験に基づいた理由付けをしても問題ありません。ただし、説得力のある内容になるように注意しましょう。yukata や jimbei のように、日本語の言葉を文章中に使うことも可能ですが、英語圏の人が読んでもわかるように、簡単な説明を前後に添える必要があります。

In addition も便利な接続詞の1つです。1つ目の理由を述べる際に数字を用いなかった場合は、2つ目以降も second などではなく、In addition といった接続詞を用います。

It is for these two reasons that I think ～の構文が難しければ、For the two reasons above, I think ～のように、カンマで区切ることもできます。

増えないと考えた場合の解答例

I do not think the number of foreign people who come to visit Japan will increase in the future. I will give two reasons to support my opinion.

To begin with, news about disasters in Japan is spread worldwide. Foreign people might grow the fear and cancel their plan to visit Japan.

In addition, Japanese people are not very nice to foreign people. I have heard some foreign tourists complaining about discrimination in Japan.

For the two reasons above, I do not think the number of foreign people who visit Japan will increase.

学校生活に関する英作文の練習問題

I do not agree with the opinion that Japanese club activities’ rules should be changed. There are two reasons why I think this way.

First, although some rules are surely strict, most coaches put a priority on students’ studying. Joining club activities can teach them how to balance their study and hobby.

Second, following rules and orders will be necessary even after they graduate from school. Those strict rules in club activities are good education for students.

For these two reasons, I do not agree that the rules in Japanese club activities should be changed.

解答の解説

disagree の代わりに do not agree を用いることができます。

「規則は確かに厳しい」と、反対の意見を認めた上でalthough を用い、「～ではあるものの」のように表現することもできます。英検2級の英作文問題では、語数が80～100語なので、語数オーバーしないように注意する必要があります。

necessary は、綴りが正しく書けているかチェックしましょう。

Japanese club activities’ rules を the rules in Japanese club activities に言い換えています。同じフレーズが続かないように工夫する能力を身に付けさせるとよいでしょう。

賛成意見の解答例

I agree with the opinion that Japanese club activities’ rules should be changed. There are two reasons why I think this way.

First, those strict rules sometimes prevent students from studying. When I was in high school, my friends in baseball club could not study for exams because they were too busy with club activities.

Second, too much engagement in club activities can deprive students of opportunities to challenge other things. For example, they cannot go for a trip because they cannot get a long vacation.

For these two reasons, I agree that the rules in Japanese club activities should be changed.

人権に関する英作文の練習問題

I do not think the death penalty should be abolished. I have two reasons to think this way.

One reason is that I think ethical reason does not apply to a person who is not ethical. If the criminal is not ethical, the law too does not have to be ethical to him or her.

Another reason is that it is a waste of money. It is nonsense to collect taxes and take care of cruel criminal.

It is for these two reasons that I do not think the death penalty should be abolished.

廃止に賛成の場合の解答例

I think the death penalty should be abolished. I have two reasons to think this way.

One reason is that it is cruel. Even law should not be allowed to take someone’s life away.
