Beginner: Preparation Before the Lesson
– go through the lesson material before the class
– study the vocabulary words and expressions in Activity 1
– familiarize yourself with the dialogue in Activity 2 so you’re ready for the listening activity
Activity 1: Vocabulary Bank
Objective:
Vocabulary enrichment is through direct definition. It is designed for beginner students to understand the meaning of the words with less time and effort. This will give teachers more time to explain the words/expressions the students failed to understand at the first try.
Instruction:
Read the following with your tutor.
Activity 2: Note-taking
Objective:
This cloze test will enable the student to improve their listening comprehension skills by note-taking. The tutor will have a copy different from the student’s. The dialogue will be used in a role-play after the student has filled in all the gaps.
Instruction:
Listen to your tutor carefully as he/she reads a dialogue. Fill in the blanks with the missing words.
Activity 3: Dialogue
Objective:
By reading the same dialogue the student is tasked to complete, the student will be able to review the missing words. At the same time, this will reinforce the student’s understanding of the text since has listened and completed it prior to reading it aloud.
Instruction:
Refer to the dialogue in Activity 2. Make sure all the gaps are filled in before reading it aloud with your tutor.
Activity 4: Appropriate Response
Objective:
This will help the student identify appropriate responses to sentences in a conversation.
Instruction:
Your tutor will read you sentences. Respond to them accordingly.

Objective:
Vocabulary enrichment is through context clues. It is designed for intermediate students to derive the meaning of words by analyzing their contexts. It will help them improve their diction as they are practiced first-hand how the words are used.
Instruction:
Complete each sentence with the most appropriate word from the box.
Objective:
This part will practice students how to read with correct pronunciation, intonation, etc… while they get to see how English is used at the workplace.
Instruction:
Read the dialogue with your tutor.
Objective:
This listening activity will test the students’ attention to detail as they must take note of important information and be able relay them properly. The student will also be practiced on organizing their thoughts and communicate them effectively.

Objective:
This is to test how well the student will handle situations around the workplace. This will acquaint them to real-life scenarios.

Objective:
This aims the to facilitate higher order thinking skills as they must analyze data and turn them into something that their audience can easily understand. The students are expected to be very organized and critical here.
Instruction:
Interpret the given data. Discuss with your tutor and make sure to follow this format:
- introduce the general idea
- explain the context of the idea
- enumerate main points
- provide details on the points mentioned
- make a conclusion
Activity 3: Problem-solving
Objective:
This will allow the students to exercise critical thinking skills and concisely present their ideas.
Instruction:
List possible agenda for a meeting you’ll be presiding over. The meeting you’ll be calling is in response to the given situation.
Activity 4: Express Your Opinion
Objective:
This is ideal in building the students’ confidence in expressing themsleves and is a springboard to public speaking and presentation.
Instruction:
Exchange thoughts with your teacher. Try to answer in 4-5 sentences.
