[HS]1-What could you do if you could speak English?

PASSAGE READING

Please read aloud the following passage. I will check your pronunciation as you read.

READ

Pictograms

More and more people learn to speak English as it has become one of the most spoken languages in the world. Yet, what would you do when you need to communicate with someone who does not speak the same language? In that situation, visual information could help you.
One man from Switzerland made a unique T-shirt with pictograms. Pictograms are images that are used to represent different information. The shirt he made has 40 pictograms that are necessary during travel. He got this idea when he traveled to Vietnam. His motorbike broke down when he was roaming around the countryside. He needed to ask for help from the locals, but they did not share a common language. Drawing pictures on a paper became his only means of communication.
For foreign visitors, visual information like pictograms is helpful. Look around and you will find pictograms easily.
