Education
In Japan, the average age of students who enter university is 18 years old. Almost all students enter university right after they graduate high school. However, this system is not common in other countries.
In the United Kingdom, most students who go to university are 22 years old. This is because they have a unique system called “gap year”. Universities give students who passed the entrance examination a one year break. The purpose of this break is to let students gain insights on social matters.
During the gap year, students can spend their time freely. They can apply for a part-time job, do volunteer work, or travel abroad. This is considered beneficial for students’ personal growth.
