PART B_2

Land is the part of the Earth that is not covered by water. It is where humans get most of the natural resources that are needed for human activities. Some of the examples of land resources are minerals and forest products. Land allows people to grow and produce food. It is also where people construct houses and buildings. This is also home to various animals in the world.
However, over the past years, human activities have been greatly affecting land resources. Irresponsible use of land resources has been the main cause of the decline in available resources. Humans use too many resources without considering its consequences. That is why the government and some organizations are educating people on how to protect and save land resources.

PART B_2

There are many natural resources from the sea that benefit people. They provide food and medicines. However, the sea is currently at risk of running out of natural resources. One example is overfishing. If people keep on overfishing, the fish population will continue to decrease because people will catch them faster than fish can produce more of their kind. Some fishermen put large weighted nets across the sea floor to catch fish. This method of fishing usually destroys the natural environment at the bottom of the sea. Because of this, there are some areas in the world that provide laws to protect the sea floor from any damages.
The sea also provides non-living resources such as minerals, natural gas, and oil which could be obtained by drilling into the sea floor. However, drilling into the sea floor can make the sea at risk of oil spills. To prevent this, researchers are now starting to look for other ways to use less oil and save the sea so that more people will benefit from it.

(Please send the mispronounced words and expressions to your student.)

PART B_2

The effects of climate change continue to manifest these days. According to scientists, the Earth’s temperature will continue to rise from -16 to -12 degrees Celsius over the next century because of the heat-trapping gases made by human activities.
In the third and fourth National Climate Assessment report, scientists were able to find the harmful effects of climate change. As the temperature rises, there will be more changes in climate patterns such as frequent and longer rainy days in winter and spring. The temperature in summer will increase and last for weeks making the lands dry. The increased temperature will also cause ice to melt in the Arctic regions and cause the sea level to rise.
To control the effects of climate change, experts are now working on reducing the level of heat-trapping gases on Earth by reducing fuel burning. Also, many countries are getting ready for climate change by planning and building systems such as flood defenses. Together, people will be able to deal with the effects of climate change to provide a better life for future generations.

The use of natural resources has been increasing over the past years. This has contributed a lot to air, water, and soil pollution especially in Asian countries. Because of that, a lot of countries have been supporting and promoting sustainable production.
Sustainable production promotes the creation of goods and services in a non-polluting way by limiting the use of natural resources and toxic materials that are harmful to people and the environment. Basically, it aims to “do more and better with less”. It is also about providing access to basic services, decent jobs, and improving the quality of life. Sustainable production must also be safe for workers, consumers, and communities. This benefits the environment, workers, communities, and the likes in the long run. This could also increase production without putting the environment and people at risk. It is also a way to save the Earth for the future generation.

Town planning is a creative process of managing land which depends on the needs of the town. It involves development, strategies, and plans to protect the environment, create exciting and new places, and support communities. The history of town planning dates back as far as the 8th century B.C. The Roman Empire started to use town planning for the public as well as for the military defense. Town planning can be separated into two parts. First is the land use management which shows how each part of the site’s land will be used. It includes water systems and building management. Second is planning the strategies. It is a long-term plan of a town’s development after one year or more.

There are many benefits of town planning. It includes protecting historical structures and developing the environmental and business needs of a community. The most important of all is the creation of effective road systems around new towns so that more and more people can live conveniently.

Studying at a university is very important. People who graduated from a university usually get more job opportunities that allow them to live a better life. However, studying at a university could be expensive due to many reasons. Some of which are tuition fees, meals, and transportation. That is why a lot of university students apply for a part-time job to earn more money for their expenses, while others apply for student loans which they have to pay for years after they graduate. Meanwhile, the government, together with some private groups, offers financial support to students. This often includes the free tuition fee. Unlike student loans, financial support provides benefits to students as it helps them finish their studies without the need to pay it back in the future.

Biomimicry is a method where people look for answers in nature to solve problems and improve human life. One of the first examples of Biomimicry was the study on human flight. The first airplane was created by the Wright brothers in 1903. They had the idea while watching birds in flight. Another example is the study on how termites control the temperature inside the termite hills in Africa where it is generally warm. The researchers studied the hills’ design and they found out that it can help improve building designs. They were able to build the Eastgate Center, an office building in Zimbabwe that stays cool without air conditioning. Biomimicry not only helps humans find solutions to problems, but also gives them various ideas to improve their way of life.

Japan throws away a huge amount of food every year. These food products that are being thrown away are still safe to eat. The greater number of food products being put to waste come from houses. According to a study, 22 percent of food waste from houses consisted of unused foods that were thrown away even before they pass their expiration dates. To save this huge amount of food waste, a non-profit organization started food banking. They collect foods that are still safe to eat from houses and businesses. Food banks deliver these foods to organizations, houses, and the likes that are in need.

Fair trade is about improving people’s lives by setting better prices while providing local farmers and workers with good working conditions. Its main goal is to make sure that farmers and workers get equal opportunities. In fair trade, organizations usually have partnerships with small farmers like banana farmers wherein they buy their products at a higher price. They buy their products at the same price despite the size and quality. To make sure that local farmers produce a good amount of crops by the end of the year, fair trade provides them with training on various environmental practices. They also offer the local farmers more options by providing them different kinds of seeds.

PART B_2

Many countries have started making animal sanctuaries around the world. They help protect animals that are rescued or injured. Animal sanctuaries provide a natural environment with mountains, trees, and rivers managed by people to look after the animals. Animal keepers help the animals recover from stress and injuries they had before being brought to the sanctuary. Animal sanctuaries are also places for animals to reproduce so that they can avoid a great decrease in their population. However, animals from these sanctuaries cannot be easily returned to their natural environment because it has been damaged, or the animals are not healthy enough to live and find food on their own. Building more animal sanctuaries is a great way for people to help protect the animals and the environment that they share.
