Female: Oh no! I left my Science project at home. Today is the deadline of that project. I’m in trouble.
Male: How did that happen?
Female: I woke up late this morning because I stayed up until midnight to finish that project. I had to rush to school to be on time for my first class. I only realized that I left my project after my first class.
Male: That’s a big problem. What are you planning to do?
Female: I don’t know what to do yet. Do you have any ideas?
Male: Well, you can try to create a new one during your break time. Just make one that looks like the one you made last night.
Female: It took me a lot of time to make that project last night. I think it took me at least five hours to finish everything. Our break time is only for an hour, and I don’t think that’s going to be enough for me to make a new one.
Male: Then, why don’t you ask our Science teacher for a deadline extension? Tell her what happened and that you can submit your project tomorrow morning instead. I’m sure she’ll understand.
Female: Our Science teacher is very strict when it comes to deadlines. She might allow me to submit it tomorrow but I’m sure that she will deduct some points on my grade as a consequence. I don’t want to fail in Science.

I agree with the second suggestion because it provides a practical solution. Asking her Science teacher for a deadline extension has more assurance that she will get a good grade for that project. Making a new one means wasting the project which she worked hard for last night. Besides, making it during her break time does not guarantee the quality of her Science project. She might not even be able to finish it during her one-hour break time because it took her at least five hours to finish the one that she made last night. In the end, even if her Science teacher deducts some points on her grade for submitting her project a day late, at least she was able to submit a presentable project.

Female:
Have you seen the announcement posted a while ago? The volleyball competition is moved to the same day as the examination.
Male:
The examination is next week, right? What happened? I thought the competition will be held this Saturday.
Female:
They moved the schedule to next Monday. The organizers of the competition said that there is a problem with the venue. Other schools will use it next week.
Male:
That really is a problem. Your team needs you in the competition but you also need to take your examination.
Female:
I know. I really don’t know how to deal with this.
Male:
The competition will be held in the afternoon, right? You can take your examination in the morning. Then, head to the venue for the volleyball competition after.
Female:
That would be really difficult. I need to warm up before the competition starts. I will not have enough time to do both on the same day.
Male:
Can’t someone fill in for you while you’re not there? Maybe you can find a substitute player.
Female:
We can’t do that because the name of the players were already registered last week. We can’t just add another player before the game. I hope they’ll move the date of the competition again.

Oh no! I left my P.E. uniform. I need it for our softball game in our class today.
Male:
Do you remember where you put it?
Female:
Yes, I put it in my locker together with my shoes earlier.
Male:
Why did you put it in your locker?
Female:
It was too heavy to carry in my bag. I had 3 classes before our P.E. class today.
Male:
I see. Why don’t you get it from your locker? You still have time before P.E. class starts.
Female:
I can’t because our P.E. class will start in 5 minutes. My locker is in the other building, it will take me at least 15 minutes to get there. I’m afraid I might get back here late. Our professor will deduct some points from the team’s total score if there’s a late member.
Male:
If that’s the case, maybe you can ask our professor if he’ll allow you to be the scorer for today’s game. Then, just play next week.
Female:
I don’t think that will work because our professor is too strict. Also, he said during our last class that those students who will not play as scheduled will be marked as absent.
