LESSON GOAL

Let’s check our lesson goal. In this material, you will learn about countable and uncountable nouns. You will also learn when to use “How much~” and “How many~” in sentences.

この教材では、可算名詞と不可算名詞について学びます。また、”how many” と “how much” の使い方について学びます。

GRAMMAR POINT

可算名詞とは、１つ、２つと数えられる名詞のことです。不可算名詞は、液体や気体、概念など、数えることのできない名詞を指します。
可算名詞の数量について聞くときは、how many、不可算名詞の量について聞くときは、how much を使います。

e.g., How many books do you have?　本を何冊持っていますか？

e.g., I have ten books.　私は本を十冊持っています。

e.g., How much water do you drink in one day?　一日にどれくらいの水を飲みますか？

e.g., I drink two bottles of water everyday.　毎日ボトル2本分の水を飲みます。

USEFUL EXPRESSIONS

Let’s practice some expressions. I will read each sentence first. Please read after me.

You do not have to worry, sir. I will have my team look for new suppliers. Although selling only two new flavors is a good idea, I think it is better to sell all four flavors. That way, we can get new customers.

You have your points, Mr. Evans, but I still have few things that I need to see on your plan. Kindly include the capital we need, a list of possible suppliers, and a research on our costumers. I think we can give your idea a chance.

As you can see in the graph, there are only 50 students enrolled in the Music Department for this school year. That is only 5 percent of the school population. According to the school administration, the Music Department can only accommodate 10 students per year. The reasons for the limited slots are the number of professors and musical instruments available in their department. They only have 5 music teachers. Two of them teach different musical instruments while the remaining three teach musical instruments and song-writing. Another reason is that the department has a limited number of guitars, cellos, violins, pianos, trumpets, and mandolins.

To summarize the presentation, I would like to mention that the main reasons the Music Department has a small population are the limited number of teachers and musical instruments they have.

To conclude this presentation, the school administration should allocate more funds to the Music Department so they can hire more teachers and provide more musical instruments to students.

Another reason why people laugh is to communicate with others. It helps them build relationships. According to a study, laughing is associated with human interaction. In fact, people laugh for about 30 times more when they are with other people as compared to when they are alone.

In today’s lesson, we will be discussing the reasons why people laugh. Laughing has always been a huge part of people’s lives; they can’t go on a day without it. People laugh to express their emotions. They usually laugh when they hear funny jokes or when they are being tickled.

However, people do not only laugh because of funny jokes, they also laugh to communicate. People laugh for about 30 times more during conversations with their family and friends. It is their reactions to statements and comments. In social interactions, people laugh to display some sense of belongingness. It is a way to show the people around them that they understand and agree with them. A study on human relationships reveals that families, couples or friends who deal with problems through laughter feel less stressed. They feel it most especially when they are doing it together. When these problems turn into positive emotions, people feel a lot better both physically and mentally.
