Japanese animation has been popular in the Philippines since the 1980s. These animated shows are shown on major TV network channels in the Philippines so it reached a wide audience in the country. These shows are dubbed into the local language so anyone can watch them conveniently. Because of their nice illustrations, amazing visual effects, and interesting stories, Japanese animated shows have become popular especially among children.
Japanese animation, also known as “anime”, has been a part of the childhood of many Filipinos. Although, not only children but also some adults like watching anime. Some of them even collect action figures of their favorite characters. Others also participate in cosplay events dressed up as anime characters.
Aside from entertainment, the Filipino audience also learned about Japanese culture by watching anime. As a result, some Filipinos became interested in learning more about Japanese culture. Some of them travel to Japan to personally experience what they would only watch on TV when they were still children.

This place is wonderful. I can not believe we are here in Palawan, Philippines.
Indeed. The beach is so beautiful and I have never felt so warm. I am really happy that we are here this vacation. I cannot wait to swim and enjoy the sea.

Me too, but first, we have to go to our hotel room to put down our bags and get some rest for a while.
I agree. I think we should just ride a jeepney from here since the hotel is only few kilometers away.

Sure. This will be our first time to ride a jeepney. This is going to be fun especially we both know some Filipino words.

Language of the future
Pictograms are often used in street signs, buildings, train stations, schools and the likes. They help foreign travelers read and understand signs easier. However, pictograms can be confusing sometimes. For example, the road work ahead sign could mean different things. It could be a man digging or it could also be a man opening his umbrella on a windy day.
One’s cultural background could affect his or her understanding of a pictogram. For instance, some people can tell the message of a pictogram as soon as they see it, but others do not recognize immediately what it actually means. That is why when artists create a pictogram, they need to make sure that it is universal. In this way, people will easily understand its meaning even if they are not familiar with the culture.
Pictogram is considered an important tool for communication. As it becomes more and more popular, many people are curious if pictograms would eventually be the language of the future.
