Female: I left my Science project at home! It is due today.
Male: Oh, no! What happened?
Female: I woke up late because I stayed up until midnight to finish that project. I had to rush to school to be on time for my first class. I only realized that I left my project after my first class.
Male: That’s a big problem. What are you planning to do?
Female: Yeah. I really don’t know what to do.
Male: You can try to create a new project during your break time. Just make one that looks like the one you made last night.
Female: It took me a lot of time to finish that project. Our break is only for an hour. My time is very limited.
Male: Why don’t you ask our Science teacher for a deadline extension. Tell her what happened and that you can submit it tomorrow morning. I’m sure she’ll understand.
Female: Our Science teacher is very strict when it comes to deadlines. I’m afraid she might not allow me to submit my project later than the due date. If ever she does, she might deduct some points on my grade. I don’t want to fail in Science.

LECTURE READING

I will read aloud the lecture below. Please listen and take notes.

READ

Getting enough sleep is essential to physical health. Sleeping is as important as getting the right amount of food for people to survive. When people sleep, their body rests; it conserves energy, reduces blood pressure, and the brain remains active. Researchers show that people should get an average of 6-8 hours of sleep every day. However, many people are not getting enough sleep nowadays. According to research, lack of sleep puts one’s health at risk. Some of the negative effects of lack of sleep are being more sensitive to pain and increasing the risk of having health problems.
People who are sleep deprived are more sensitive to pain. Pain and sleep affect each other. Our immune system benefits from our sleep. If the body does not have enough rest, it reduces its tolerance to pain. Some people do not get quality sleep at night because of pain. Unfortunately, it makes pain worse the next day.
Lack of sleep also increases the risk of getting health problems. A poor-quality sleep may lead to serious health problems such as Alzheimer’s disease and the likes. Alzheimer’s disease is an illness where people lose their memory due to the build-up of beta-amyloid. It is a protein in our brain wherein its growth is caused by lack of sleep.
Because of these negative effects, doctors have been reminding people to prioritize having enough quality sleep as much as possible.
