PART B_2

Fossils
Fossils are parts of an organism such as dead plants and animals from distant past. They are buried and preserved in sediment. Then, this sediment may form a rock in which fossils can be removed from it when the sediment is exposed at the Earth’s surface.
Most fossils are from organisms that lived 600 million years ago. There are various ways on how to tell rock ages. One of them is by using their radio-isotopic composition. This is very useful to determine the specific time an organism exists. In addition to that, the magnetic time zone helps in providing chronological evidence.
Fossil records provide evidence of the history of life. It tells when a specific organism lived on Earth. It is believed that life began over 3.5 billion years ago. Moreover, eukaryotic cells started to exist around 1.8 billion years ago. While photosynthesis expanded at a similar time that resulted in an increase in the oxygen concentration of the Earth’s atmosphere.

Fossil records can be studied in two ways. The first one is at a gross level conducted through the geological continuity of the rock sequence. The second one is at a finer level. It estimates the percentage of the total time range represented by the rocks when sediments were being deposited.

South Pacific countries
In the South Pacific countries, the demand and availability of protein-rich food such as meat and dairy have been increasing. Meanwhile, the number of imports of unhealthy processed foods has also increased. This has resulted in a lot of countries fighting both under- and overnutrition.
The increase in demand for imported goods such as canned meats, instant noodles, and cereals affected the number of locally-produced plants and animals that people consume. This means that the people from these countries get enough food to eat but they are not eating healthy. Because of this, a lot of children suffer from micronutrient deficiency. In addition to that, the number of people who have obesity, diabetes, and heart disease has been increasing.
The majority of people living in rural areas in the South Pacific still depend on fishing and farming. Moreover, cultivated crops such as sweet potatoes, bananas, and watermelons are an important part of their rural diet. Meanwhile, producing enough food to feed the increasing population is also a challenge for them due to limited land that is suitable for growing crops.
The problem of food production is also affected by poor transport systems and storage infrastructure. They make it difficult for farmers to deliver products to the market or to engage in trading that might expand food choices.

A black hole is a place in space that exhibits strong gravity. If a person fell into a black hole, he or she might not be able to escape. Even light cannot go out. The reason why gravity becomes so strong is that a matter has been squeezed into a tiny space. This usually occurs when a star is dying.
Black holes vary in size, it could be big or small. Experts believe that the smallest black hole is as small as an atom. Meanwhile, the largest black holes are called “supermassive.” They have also proved that every large galaxy has a supermassive black hole in its center.
The Earth, as well as other planets, would never fall into a black hole because black holes are not close enough to the solar system.

The Philippine economy
The Philippine economy is one of the most dynamic in the East Asia Pacific region. It is rooted in strong consumer demand supported by the employment market and remittances.
In the year 2000 to 2009, the country’s average annual growth was 4.5%. Meanwhile, from 2010 to 2018, it was able to maintain an average annual growth of 6.3%. As a result, the Philippines is bound to make a leap from a lower-middle-income country to an upper-middle-income country.
The Philippine economic growth slowed to 5.5% year-on-year in the first half of the year 2019. Consequently, it was recorded as the lowest in eight years. This is caused by a decrease in investment growth and a weak external environment. The slow growth in investment is considered as the effect of the delayed approval of the 2019 national budget. Meanwhile, private consumption is predicted to increase in 2019 as inflation further decreases.
In 2015, the poverty rate declined by 21.6% from 26.6% in 2006. This proves that the Philippine economy has provided fair opportunities to every section of society. Moreover, the unemployment rate has set a historic low. Meanwhile, despite the rate of underemployment still being high, it has been continuously improving. Although the employment rate increased between 2006 and 2015, a lot of Filipino workers are settling in low-end service work and average wages remain low. Considering all of these, it is necessary to provide better jobs and wages to achieve shared prosperity.
