Martine Rothblatt believes that “mind clones” will be humanity’s biggest invention within twenty years. The concept of cloning human brains for robotic bodies to use has been described numerous times in science fiction works.

However, Google director Rey Kurzweil said that our bodies could be replaced by machines within ninety years. Some people may even be digitally immortal. His 1999 book, “The Age of Spiritual Machines: When Computers Exceed Human Intelligence,” mentions one possible future of blurring boundaries between human intelligence and artificial intelligence. World problems such as hunger, war, and pollution can be solved if super-intelligent transhumans become hundreds of times smarter. On the other hand, computer-based intelligence acting “fairly” by human standards may not be guaranteed. Kurzweil mentioned that humans who become part of AI systems in the late 21st century might regard ordinary humans as second-class citizens. Furthermore, ordinary people may not be able to keep up with super-intelligent transhumans.

If “mind clones” become possible in the future, would you like to purchase a robotic version of yourself?

In less than a century, the word “organic” became a symbol of quality and tradition. In recent years, many organic products have appeared in shopping areas and superstores, claiming they are “100% organic” and have “no artificial additives.” But do they truly help the environment? Are they better for your health? They may cost twice as much, but how can we check what you are getting and if they are worth the price?

The largest sector of organic products still belongs to food. Supporters claim they taste better and are better for people. Critics, on the other hand, say there is no nutritional difference. The public demand for such products has increased drastically due to fear of the possible health risks of chemical pesticides. Consumers believe that pesticides can cause cancer, especially in children. But scientists claim that the fear is exaggerated.

There is still reason to be cautious, despite denials by many scientists. A recent study showed that 203 out of 957 non-organic foods tested and still had some pesticides. This includes nearly all the bread tested. Still, other scientists claim that our understanding of pesticide effects on humans is very limited.

Father of the Paralympic Games
The Paralympics is held every four years after the Olympics, but did you know it has a different origin? Founded by Dr. Ludwig Guttman, he devoted his life to helping paralyzed patients live full lives.

Guttman was born into a Jewish family in 1899. At eighteen years old, he helped patients at a local hospital. One day, Guttman was shocked to see a young man with a broken back kept in a cast. The patient had lost his ability to move and his hope for the future. Guttman was told that the patient would die in three months, but only after five weeks, the young man passed away. This incident led Guttman to study medicine at the university.

Guttman flew from Germany to England with his wife and children in 1939. He started working at Stoke Mandeville Hospital a few years later, and most of the patients at the hospital were suffering from serious injuries. Seeing the depressed patients, Guttman decided to change the situation. He improved the quality of medical care and hired a physical trainer from the army to build up the patients’ strengths. In a few years, an 80% death rate turned to an 80% survival rate.

Dear Mr. Holland,

On May 14, we were glad to receive your order of cement (reference no. 577806). Your cement order of 1,900 kg is being processed. Unfortunately, we are unable to fill your order at this time due to a lack of stock. Our available cement is 300 kilograms short. To compensate for the inconvenience, we recommend splitting the order into two consignments. The initial consignment will contain the first 1600 kg, with the remainder of your order being placed on hold. Once we restock, we’ll send the remaining items to you as soon as possible.

If you give us the green light for this setup, we’ll have the first shipment in transit by May 17. It is expected to arrive on May 18. We regret any inconvenience this may give you. We trust you will find our ideas to be helpful. Regarding this topic, we shall await your response. We’ll be waiting for your response on this subject.

Sincerely,

Tom Sato

Some wealthy people are planning to upload their brains onto computers after they pass away in hopes of making science progress and generating artificial intelligence (AI). This endeavor may seem unbelievable, but America’s highest-paid female CEO and founder of GPS navigation company GeoStar, Martine Rothblatt, made it somewhat possible.

She started Sirius Satellite Radio, a service that allows customers to listen to nearly a thousand different radio stations online. In 2007, Rothblatt created a simple replica of her partner’s brain and uploaded it into Bina48. The life-like robot was capable of having short conversations with humans. However, Bina48 cannot hold long conversations that seem fully “human.”
